Last week I scouted a house in Preston Hollow that Dallas designer Patrick McElwee is working on. In it, I spotted this woven paper lampshade. McElwee says he has them custom made in New York. Don't you love how the light glows through it? Paper is a humble material that can help bring a fussy room down a bit. I wish I could see it in a modern room, as I think it would look smashing. McElwee tells me the shades are even more sparkling at night.
The Oriental Lamp Shade company in New York has a website that says it custom makes them (scroll down a bit, you'll find it). Theirs shows two different colors of paper woven into the shade, but go for the monochromatic look -- it's more sophisticated.
